Le Petit Maison
Petite Maison is a detached family home located on Rue de la Bonne Fleur, a quiet clos accessed from Le Vauquiedor in St Andrews.
Interestingly Tyrrell Dowinton Architects were appointed to design the house soon after the Covid pandemic lockdown occurred in 2020.
During this period, we were able to develop the design with our client, albeit remotely, and to prepare a planning application for submission to the Local Authorities. Through regular on-line design meetings, we were able to develop the design using 3D modelling and present these ideas to our client without the need to meet in person.
The design proposal saw the existing single storey house demolished, with a replacement 1½ storey property built in its place.
The new dwelling provides spacious accommodation over two floors with a large open living space with vaulted ceiling, an office, lounge, and guest suite at ground floor level. A timber and glass staircase leads to the first floor where a further three en-suite bedrooms are provided.
The property’s outlook is predominantly over the large garden and terraces to the southwest, whilst a garage and detached car port/workshop are located to the northwest of the property.
Schist stonework, vertical composite cladding and natural slate finishes were adopted to maintain a traditional palette of materials in a modern setting. Accenting these traditional finishes, grey facias, rainwater goods, and dark grey fenestration were installed. The materials and their placement also enhance the appearance of the division of the dwelling into four interlinked components.
This contemporary family home exceeds current building regulation requirements and carefully considers our clients needs.
