Le Gardinet
The sympathetic renovation of a Protect dwelling with extensions to the rear.
Le Gardinet is thought to have been built circa. 1730 (John McCormack) with the western granite/brick extension being constructed in the 19th Century. The extended dwelling had been left to deteriorate over the past years and required significant repair, refurbishment, and investment to bring it back to the significant status as a family home it deserved. TDA where employed to work with the new owner to undertake essential repairs to the existing fabric of the dwelling, modernisation of the historic elements whilst maintaining the special interest and original features of the property. The client also wished to extend the dwelling so as to provide additional living accommodation for their young and growing family. Our design links ta new extension off the rear of the original farmhouse forming a new central courtyard entrance and open plan living space at ground floor level, with new additional bedroom accommodation at first floor level. Materials and construction form follow the original farmhouse and compliment the vernacular of the historic nature of Le Gardinet. External landscaping is employed to increase the biodiversity of the site whilst providing screening and privacy around the dwelling.
